Dangerous sea creatures

Hunters sand shark sometimes instead off the hook gray, or, as it is called by the Americans, brown shark (Carcharhinus milberti), which is larger in size than sand. Grey sharks occur in the Atlantic coast of America, they are found also in the Pacific and in the Mediterranean sea. Many fishermen and divers of the East coast lightly to the grey shark, considering that they are harmless. However, the tragic incident that took place off the coast of Cuba in 1932, tells a different story. In January of that year a fisherman caught a gray shark with a length of 3.7 metres, found it in the belly of a human arm, a piece of blue mantle tissue and a few equally unappetizing items, pointing to the fact that the shark recently feasted on human flesh. The identity of the victim could not be determined, but it is possible that this shark was involved in the incident with the family of Atkinson that happened a few days before her capture.

Edwind F. Atkins, a wealthy planter, departed that day from Key West to Havana aboard a twin-engine seaplane “Columbus”.In addition to the crew and the Atkins, onboard simultaneities his wife, two sons, nanny, governess and a man of Otto Abraham, a banker from new York. 20 miles from Havana the plane’s engine began to act up, and the seaplane had to make an emergency landing on water, near ferry sailing along the “X. M. Flagler”. The boys tumbled out of the cab into the water, Atkins and governess grace MacDonald got out on the wing of the seaplane. Mrs. Atkins, the nurse, Abraham and the crew were picked up by the lifeboat, which was lowered from a boat. Waves rolled through the wings lying on the water plane, but some time Atkins and miss MacDonald managed to hold on; but eventually they were swept away. Never saw them again. The friends of the deceased said that Atkins was a cloak of the same blue color as the fabric found in the stomach of the shark. Unclear remained only choked if the planter in the waves or was eaten alive. After all, sharks are not just predators — they also feed on carrion and even.

Mako shark, or Atlantic blue-grey shark (Isurus oxyrinchus ) is a highly specialized predator that dwells in almost all the seas of the world and having the courage to attack even on this prey, as the sword-fish. IACS is a recognized man — eater, often attacking even boats. Caught on the hook, this shark is sometimes popping up out of the water several feet and “walks” on the tail like a Marlin. Mako is distinguished a pointed muzzle and a tapered body; back with Mako dark blue, and white belly. This shark is increasingly attracting the attention of anglers.

One day fishing of this shark was the highlight of the television program the dick Cave. In 1971 I took dick and his wife Carrie Nye and musician from the band “the Modern jazz Quartet” Percy Heath on an expedition, the organization risovannoy the new York aquarium. The aim of the expedition was to tag several sharks. South of Block island, 40 miles from Cape Montauk, we caught three sharks-Mako, who furiously resisted, even when we dragged them to the Board hired fishing vessels. Hooked Mako shark tail beats, writhing with his powerful body and with his mouth open lunges at anyone who is near. Unlike Mako, the sand shark in such a situation, floating near the side, just a log.
